About the Event

To celebrate and promote HUEman kinship and kindness in the diverse communities of Los Gatos and San Jose, AWỌ is pleased to present HUEmanity Salon Series, a three-day drumming and talking exchange bringing together unheard voices from local communities to unpack the different shades of our shared HUEmanity, and featuring a rich tapestry of African, African-American and immigrant storytelling artists.

On July 16, our HUEmanity Salon 1 will feature guest speakers Ann Jealous and Caroline Haskell, co-authors of Combined Destinies, with performances by Filipina singer Joey Mendoza, storyteller and dancer NKan, Guinean drummer Mohamed Bangoura, peace dancer Khalilah & College of Adaptive Arts, Tabia African-American Theatre Ensemble, and solo performances by Vietnamese American multidisciplinary social practice artist Quynh-Mai Nguyen, West African Griot Storyteller Mandjou Kone, spoken word artist Venus Jones, and Yoruba Storyteller Oluwaseunfunmi Turner, and close with a musical celebration by the pan-African Afrobeat, Soukous, Highlife band Alayo.
